Adjustment and saying goodbye

Approximately two weeks before your child begins at The Clown Club, you will meet with a teacher for an intake discussion and an introduction to the group. Important information will be exchanged between parents and teachers about your child and the group. We will ask you to fill in a form to tell us about your child and about your wishes and expectations. We will also schedule two times for your child to visit and get used to the group before starting longer days.

During the early visits, the focus is on both parent and child feeling comfortable, safe and secure in the group and with the teachers, as everyone is getting to know and trust one another. The purpose of the shorter visits is to encourage adjustment during a week when the parents are directly available, when a whole day of care is not necessary. To establish predictability for the child, the parent will stay only briefly, and when leaving will do so in a clear manner under the guidance of the teacher. While some children may cry when separating from their parents in the beginning of the day, it’s also common that they cry when they have to leave at the end of the day. It is our goal that you and your child feel safe and confident as you begin each day, feeling and trusting the loving care of experts.
